I have a bathroom sink & fixture which are about a year old. The drain has worked fine, until about a month ago. Recently, any water I try to hold in the sink slowly leaks out. This is mildly frustrating to our cat who likes to drink from the sink, but terribly irritating to me. (I'm sure there are names for parts, but I have no idea what they are.

But then my fiance cleaned the bowl with some glass cleaner (might have had bleach or ammonia in it, I do not know). Since then, a full basin will be drained within ten minutes.

Clean away gunk with a wire brush. If the stopper has a gasket, replace the gasket with one the same size. Put the stopper back into the sink, lining up the small eye hole on the bottom end with the pivot rod. Reinsert the pivot rod and tighten the retaining nut. Test the stopper to ensure it works and holds water.

Remove it by unscrewing it and check for any gunk attached to it. Clean the stopper off and throw away the gunk in a trash can. We kept the same faucet and drain. The stopper is the lift rod to close drain, push rod down to open drain. The plunger won't hold the water in the basin. Called Moen, they sent a new plunger, and it won't hold the water either.
